Founded by C.F. (Fred) MacKewn in June of 1960, the firm has continued to serve the London community since that time.

On February 1, 1984, E.D. (Dixon) Winder joined the firm merging the long established London law practice of Winder, Winder and McNeil with the then existing firm of MacKewn, Smeenk, Leach and Broad.

Dixon's father, the late E.M. (Mel) Winder, Q.C., had founded the predecessor of that firm in 1930 and had incorporated in that firm the established London practices of William Bartram (1902-1931) and Gordon H. Tennant (1914-1958), the former Local Registrar of the Supreme Court of Ontario and Clerk of the Surrogate and County Courts in Middlesex County.

Both Bartram and Tennant practices succeeded 19th Century London law firms dating from London's pioneer beginnings. Richard H. McLaren, world renowned sports and commercial arbitrator, author and professor of law at U.W.O. joined the firm as counsel in February of 1986 and remained associated with the firm until 2009.
